Braeswood Books is a new Houston publisher interested in realistic literary fiction, poetry, and children’s books. We wholeheartedly support independent bookstores, and our releases will be returnable to Ingram. Braeswood’s books will also be available from Amazon and on Kindle.
We appreciate honest stories or poetry in well-crafted English about characters we can believe in, and in situations that are recognizably human. Writers who can do all of the above and make us laugh, too, are particularly appealing. However, we’re new, small, and not financed as a non-profit, so we have to be very choosy while believing in the staying power of good writing.
Our debut publication is Leaving Letitia Street: Stories. Jacqueline Simon’s wry good humor and empathic insight into the difficulties of living with the family you love is on display in this collection of eleven short stories that combine sparkling prose and a deeply compassionate humanity. Her literary prizes range from PEN Southwest’s first Houston Discovery Prize to the shortlist of the National Magazine Award for Fiction. Leaving Letitia Street: Stories has been released.
